In life, we often try to get or find answers. What is the meaning of life? How can we live a happy life? Will I ever meet God?
Some worship a God, others think about it in a more philosophical way. For me, all the questions we want to be answered, the things we can not grasp, is God. It is something that we are constantly searching for. This conversation or question doesn’t really have a specific answer. You can search for it your whole life and never find it. The way I see it, we need a conversation with ourselves. Because in the end, we are the only thing we have got.
In the music, this is translated by the F that is constantly sounding. This can be the presence of God or the things we can not comprehend. This F is colored in different ways and eventually leads to a big climax. This culmination isn’t answered or does not end on a high note. After a long fermata, the F sounds really intimate and vey soft. The piece ends on an open fifth (without a definite answer). Because for me, there isn’t really an answer and we just have to keep searching for happiness and love ourselves. It is a conversation with ourselves or one another we need. The answer for me, isn’t that relevant.
